Keep An Eye Out Tomorrow

Make sure to not miss any of the action tomorrow as the brackets round themselves into the top 8 in each class! You know there will be plenty of reaction to those games and previews of the upcoming games here on sportstownchicago.com!

Check the Podcasts!!!

We just had Holland Rausher on Friday Night Lights here on sportstownchicago.com to talk about the controversy with New Mexico Defender Elizabeth Lambert and how her team Earlham College will fare in their NCAC Conference championship game against Wittenberg College!

That interview will be on sportstownchicago.com for your listening pleasure very shortly!

Hitting the Big Time

You know Friday Night Lights is big when we are being followed on Twitter by Drew Peterson! So, let's send some love out to Drew Peterson, I'm sure you could use some right now and continue to listen to sportstownchicago.com!

WWS - Geneva Barnburner

WWS is going to pull out the victory over Geneva as they got an INT while Geneva was marching down the field. WWS then punched in another score to seal this one!

A lot of great finished here started by great comebacks, some that came through and some, like Geneva, that just fell short. Be sure to tune into the postgame show on NOW to hear the reaction to it!

MAKE SURE TO TUNE IN NOW!!!

In just a minute we will be speaking with Holland Rausher a women's soccer player at Earlham, a division 1 school! We are going to talk to Holland about the controversy in the game between BYU and New Mexico.

Was the punishment just? Were Elizabeth Lambert's actions justified? Should anyone else face punishment for what happened? Has Holland ever seen any actions on the field like this?

We will get answers for you here on sportstownchicago.com!

Glenbard North Dominates

Glenbard North dominated the 2nd half of this game and the Panthers have still yet to give up a point in the playoffs! Now they await to see who wins the game between Bolingbrook and Downers Grove South.

So it looks like I (Reliable Rick) had the Glenbard North score correct (27) and the Loco Lobo had the Sandburg score correct (0). So with power of our forces combined, we will not make Captain Planet, but at least a correct score!

Surprises at the Half!!!

O'Fallan has surprised just about everyone as they are leading the #1 seed Lincoln-Way East 17-14 in the 4th! That would throw a huge wrench into the group of death! You know that East St. Louis and Minooka are rooting for O'Fallan as missing LWE would be huge for the winner of that game!

Also Oswego is leading Providence 7-0 at the half! Another top team that needs to step it up, a lot of intruiging possibilities on the game tonight!

Make sure to tune into the post game show as we will react to all of the games and possible upsets!

Halftime

Glenbard North is up 7-0 at half, with a couple other opportunities, going for some 4th downs and not converting. They have left 6 points on the field, who knows, maybe the wind is playing a bigger role that we thought it would?

Great 1st week of Playoff Football

Most games during the first week of high school football playoffs went according to plan. WWSouth beat St. Laurence 61-6, which all of us in the studio predicted a big win for WWSouth as they look to be one the most dominant teams in 7A. Glenbard North also won with easy 26-0 over Andrew as we expected. Naperville North gave Fremd a run for their leading 14-10 at halftime, but Fremd pulled away in the 2nd half to win 22-14. That was the last game for the coaching legend Larry McKeon of Naperville North. Naperville central also came away with a 26-18 victory over Lockport. Which was a surprise to us in the studio as everyone except for Dr. Pete had Lockport winning. However, the biggest surprise of the night was Sandburg beating Hinsdale Central 35-10. No one expected this game to be a blowout, let alone Sandburg winning this game. Next up for Sandburg is Glenbard North, which will be another challenge for Sandburg. Make sure to visit http://www.sportstownchicago.com/ next Friday at 5pm for continued coverage of High School Football Playoffs!

Halftime during Playoffs

At halftime, Glenbard North leads Andrew 16-0. Glenbard North has stuck with the run game and has played solid defense. If Glenbard North continues to pound the ball and play well on defense they should win and move on to the next round. The surprise at halftim is Naperville North leading Fremd 14-10. Naperville North has done the things I had mentioned in the pregame show. Their front 4 on defense has played well and Idris Hanidu has ran the ball well. If Naperville North continues to do these things in the second half, the Huskies will pull the upset against Fremd and Larry McKeon will coach at least one more game. Listen to the the second half of Glenbard North and Andrew at www.sportstownchicago.com .

Playoff Predictions

In the first week of the playoffs, there are some great matchups. Griff, Pops and I have made some predictions on these games:

Andrew @ Glenbard North
Pops: GBN 27-6 Griff: GBN 32-17 Shonk: GBN 34-10

Naperville North @ Fremd
Pops: Fremd 21-7 Griff: NN 17-13 Shonk: Fremd 28-21

St. Laurence @ Wheaton Warenville South
Pops: WWS 38-6 Griff: WWS 47-0 Shonk: WWS 56-10

Sandburg @ Hinsdale Central
Pops: HC 24-17 Griff: HC 31-20 Shonk: HC 28-14

Lockport @ Naperville Central
Pops: Lockport 24-10 Griff: Lockport 28-27 Shonk: Lockport 17-14

Remember to listen to Andrew @ Glenbard North on www.sportstownchicago.com

Falcons come up inches short from a homecoming miracle.

Wheaton North was coming off of a 45-0 lost last week to their cross town rival Wheaton Warrenville South and in the process lost their senior QB Taylor Graham who is Ohio State bound. Many people had written this team off. This week Wheaton North faced off against 5-1 Naperville Central at home during homecoming with Junior QB Reece Butler leading the team. On paper, this looked to be a repeat of last week, but was far from it. The falcons of Wheaton North capitalized on a fumble recovery on the Redhawks 1 yard line and punched in a touchdown a few plays later to take an early 7-0 lead. Late in the 2nd quarter, Falcons QB Reeces Butler hooked up with Richard Finley on a wide receiver screen that turned into a 49 touchdown, made possible by some beautiful cuts by Finley. The Falcons went into halftime leading 14-13 against Naperville Central! Who would have guessed it? The Redhawks received the ball to start the 2nd half and were marching down the field with a 7+ minute drive, when #45 Ryan Coleman picked off Nick Linne with 4:47 left in the 3rd quarter deep into Falcons territory. This play allowed the Falcons to regain the momentum that they had in the 1st half. The Falcons converted the Redhawks turnover into a Touchdown 4 minutes later on a great play-action pass from Butler to his favorite target of the night Richard Finley on a 28 yard strike. However, the Falcons would miss the PAT to take a 20-13 lead heading into the 4th Quarter. On the next possession by the Redhawks, QB Nick Linne was again picked off by #27 Eric Paradise deep in Falcons territory. The Falcons defense was stepping up on homecoming, picking off 2 passes and recovering 2 fumbles. However, on this turnover the Falcons were not able to get any points. The Redhawks would tie the game at 20 with 3:58 left in the 4th quarter on a 15 yard Touchdown pass from Nick Linne to the 2nd TE Chris Levine. The Falcons and Redhawks each had one more possession to win the game in regulation, however neither team was able to. The intensity was building and I could feel it in the press box of Wheaton North. Coaches for both teams and the PA announcers were standing, getting ready for an exciting overtime between these two DuPage Valley teams. Wheaton North won the coin toss and elected to take the ball first. In Illinois High School football, overtimes are similar to college except that each team get a possession from the 10 yard line instead of the 25. On the first play of overtime, Falcons QB Reece Butler attempted to throw a fade route to the corner of the end zone, but it was just of the fingertips of the receiver. On the next play, they gained 2 yards on a run by Jamal Johnson. On 3rd and goal from the 8, Butler attempted another fade route except this time to the left side and overthrew the target. The Falcons had to settle for a 25 yard field goal, to go up 23-20. Naperville Central had 4 downs to at least get a field goal to continue the game. On the first play, Central handed off to #39 for a 5 yard run, setting up 2nd and goal from the 5. The next play was an incomplete pass in the back of the end zone. On 3rd and goal from the 5, QB Nick Linne hit #39 in the flat for a 4 yard pass, coming up inches short of a touchdown to win the game. This set up the biggest play of the game, 4th and goal inches away from the goal line. If the Falcons hold 'em they pull a huge upset. The Redhawks lined up in a goal line formation an attempted a QB sneek, Linne appeared to come up short at 1st, but kept his legs moving and crossed the goal line on a 2nd effort, scoring the game winning touchdown 26-23. The 6-1 Redhawks rushed the field to celebrate as they barely escaped with a victory. Wheaton North played one of the best games of the year, never giving up despite losing their leader. The Falcons fell just inches short of what would have been one of the biggest upsets of the year in the Chicagoland area. Wheaton North should hold their heads high, be proud of their effort Friday night and continue that fight they showed into the last two games of the season.

It was a great night in the Friday Night Lights studio alongside Dr. Pete and Ben Andrew. A lot of great games around the region. Tune in to sportstownchicago.com next Friday at 5pm for your local high school football coverage.
Many games around the Chicagoland region are midway through the 2nd half on this soggy Friday Night. Most games were low scoring during the first half, but the scoring has picked up as of late. Currently St. Rita is up 53- 18 against Mt. Carmel, Wheaton Warrenville South beat Wheaton North 45-0, Lincoln-Way East is leading 28-0 over Sandberg, Providence is leading Fenwick 35-7. Looks like my upset special of the night isn't going to happen. Hopefully I'll have better luck next week picking the upset special.
It is rivalry week in Chicaogland! However, it looks as if the rain and poor field conditions are the big story tonight. If teams are going to win, they need to have a strong run game and a great defense; OLD SCHOOL-SMASH MOUTH FOOTBALL! During the pregame I made some predictions. Those predictions were:
Naperville North 28 Naperville Central 17
Lockport 27 Lincoln-Way East 13
St. Rita 31 Mt. Carmel 17
Lincoln-Way Central 17 Sandburg 13
Wheaton Warrenville South 38 Wheaton North 10
Glenbard North 24 Glenbard East 6
Joliet Catholic 31 Marist 13
Fenwick 14 Providence 10 *UPSET SPECIAL*

POST GAME RECAP!

The thought of the day, Weather did cause some hassle in the games this week. Finals: WW South over Naperville North 38-7. Hillcrest over Lemont 16-10. Lincoln Way Central over Sandburg 10-3. Naperville Central over Glenbard East 14-7. St. Charles East over East Aurora 40-0. Running clock allowing the games to get over quicker. This week is all about low scoring games due to the weather in the area, with the exception to the WW South Game and St. Charles East game.

2nd half

Running Clock in the St. Charles East vs. East Aurora game and also in the WW South vs. Naperville North game.

Half time: Low scoring games due to the weather

The weather has been a huge factor for todays games. Wondering what the scores would be like if the weather was a normal autumn night. Tonight's games are all about the trenches and seeing if running the ball as much as possible is going to get it done..

Kyles Predictions

Chris Postgame thoughts

Another week of high school football another week of unbelievably great high school football games in Illinois. Mount Carmel losing to Loyola was huge and is going to cause a big shift in the rankings. I am still unhappy about Minooka but you cant always get what you want. Tough game for Glenbard South against Geneva but theres still help for them and i think they can still go far. With all that happend this week I cant wait for next week to see what will happen!!

Lax is amazing

Lacrosse is amazing enough said. Cant wait to see what happens this week with all the good games in high school football!!!

POST GAME RECAP!

Big wins this week. Lockport over Bolingbrook 41-14, Wheaton Warensville South over Glenbard East 41-6, Plainfield South over Romeoville 61-27.... No disappointment this week with rushing, Plainfield Romeoville Game combined for over 500 yrds.. Not to mention the fact that Plainfields rusher had 5 touchdowns.. Once again might I add the fact that I graciously said that this weeks big topic was rushing and it came down to what I had predicted. Take it for what its worth but this week on Friday Night Lights was big big big!

Half Time: RUSHING RUSHING RUSHING

The half time report we have a lot of rushing attacks that are going on this week. Just like we said in the pregame running is key to the game. In the Lockport Bolingbrook Game we have RUNNING go figure. Also we have another game the Romeoville Plainfield South Game the trend continues to be RUNNING!

predications

Player/Student Condolences

There are few times in a persons professional life where they are truly taken aback. I have been an Occupational Therapist for a few years now besides my work for this station and have grown pretty thick skinned in regards to medical matters, but an incident happened this past Friday in which I was at a loss for words, both personally and professionally. A student and football player for Curie HS, Quaashi Chandler had an apparent asthma attack on the field with 41 seconds remaining, and was carted off to the hospital where he passed a short time later. A stringer for our station Matt Misch reported the on field event to me as I was about to record him to replay a few minutes later on our live HS football broadcast. I became choked up at the report, as one of my HS classmates Adam Mohica passed away when we were in HS from an asthma attack.

Hopefully this will raise a little awareness about the disease and that life is but fragile, and lets be thankful for each day.

Mr. Pick Master!!!

Hello SportstownChicago.com!

Bryan "the pickmaster" Stokes is recapping the night. And before I get into bragging about my awesome night, I would first like to apologize for the Curie selection. I underestimated Bolingbrook and definitely could have handled that situation better.

But, 6-1 is a solid evening and I'm happy with that! Naperville North has proved to be a powerhouse team by defeating 2 solid teams in what has been an undefeated season thus far. And don't count out Providence! They have a legacy to live up to and could be a future state champions...no pressure though!

Check back for my mid-week picks later this week so you can impress your friends with your high school football knowledge. Don't forget about the big game between Doweners South and Glenbard West (I'm picking Glenbard West and super QB: Tyler Warden and best name in football : Pierre Washington-Steele).

See you next week on Friday Night Lights!

Chris Halftime thoughts

Interesting end of the first half for the Joliet Catholic vs Providence. I didn't expect the game to be this close at the half or this low scoring of a game. Providence defense has been showing that they are for real keeping the score close limiting the Jolie Catholic offense to only 7 points that were scored at the end of the half. Hit me up with your thoughts at sportstownchicago@gmail.com.

WELCOME

Hello all,

Dr. Pete here and want to thank you for stopping by sportstownchicago.com's blog about our Friday night lights football special!!!

Tune in tonight to hear the pre-game and the call regarding Joliet Catholic and Providence!
